In May 1995 in the small mountain village of La Palud s/Verdon the Commission Europeenne de Canyon (CEC) was created, with the aim to lead the sport of canyoning, especially in the professional sector, in its development.
Founding members were cavers, mountain guides, mountain guide instructors, white water enthusiasts and canyoning specialists from France, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Spain and Belgium. The Commission is composed of individual members and sports clubs, which belong to the EU, and members of other countries, who also have the management of this sport as their aim. It is organized according to standard club legal foundations, which you can read about in a separate leaflet.
Basically it consists of a committee, made up of a president, vice-president and treasurer, which manages the business of the umbrella association. The members of the committee are chosen from the ranks of the delegates from the various member countries. The seat of the umbrella association is Lucussan/France.
The aim of the Commission is to unite the various clubs and people associated with canyoning and to thus allow optimum organization and implementation of the sport of canyoning on an international level.
Besides the courses, the CEC Bulletin informs its members annually about the work of the CEC, accidents, developments etc.
